From Upwind to Downwind (De Barvolento a Sotavento)
Saturday, May 12 at 4pm - Ottawa Art Gallery

El Salvador - 2017 - 90 minutes - dir. Pilar Colomé

Spanish with English subtitles

This inspiring feature documentary takes place in the isolated communities on the shores of the volcanic Lake Ilopango region. It tells the story of three brothers who achieve their goals through the learning how to sail small racing sailboats, a training process that will eventually lead them to participate in international competitions. The stories of Arturo, Wendy, and Amilcar offer much more than just sailing, however. Acclaimed documentarian Pilar Colomé’s latest film also explores how these young people are contributing the process of national healing in El Salvador, a nation still recovering from decades of violence and upheaval. In this sensitive and affectionate portrait of these intelligent and passionate young people, human hope itself is on display.
