A coming-of-age drama set in a small fishing village in Iceland, Heartstone follows the story of two 14-year-old boys. Thor and Christian have formed a friendship due to their mutually harsh family lives. The two bond over their shared struggles and form a meaningful relationship, the only real one they’ve ever had with anyone. Their friendship is interrupted when they meet two girls and Thor forms a romantic relationship with one of them. It’s only then that Christian realizes that his feelings for Thor are something beyond. Christian and Thor are soon faced with the harsh realities of their relationship, and the cruelness of the town they live in.
"Heartstone is a personal story based on my experience growing up in a small fishing village. The core of the film is a strong, beautiful friendship between two boys, and how their environment and inner conflict drive them apart, before the bond they share manages to reunite them again. [...] I believe Heartstone is a story that carries an important message for everyone, especially youth. A story of brotherhood, self-acceptance, strong girls and the importance of family."
