One of the Canadian Film Institute’s longest-running annual festivals, the Japan Film Festival, has, for almost four decades, showcased the best in contemporary filmmaking in Japan. Despite the pandemic, we are proud to continue this cinematic tradition online for Ottawa audiences. Better still, the 2020 Japan Film Festival will also be available to film lovers all across Canada.

The 38th annual Japan Film Festival features two recent, critically acclaimed films: a touching drama about aging, A Long Goodbye (Nakano Ryota, 2019) and a fascinating documentary about the post-war phenomenon of baseball in Japan, Koshien: Japan’s Field of Dreams (Ema Ryan Yamazaki, 2019). Both screenings include an additional interview.

These two films will be live online across Canada for 72 hours starting December 10. Admission is free. Presented with the generous support of and in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan and The Japan Foundation.
