Based on a popular novel by Renato Baretić, The Eighth Commissioner follows politician and deputy Prime Minister hopeful Sinisa Mesjak, who is sent to a remote island after being at the centre of a scandal involving drugs and prositutition. Mesjak is assigned as Commissioner to the island of Trecic, with the task of establishing an electoral process -- something that the previous seven Commissioners have failed to do. As he encounters the cranky and eccentric locals who make up the island’s population, Mesjak gradually learns that there is more to the island and its inhabitants than he initially expected. Selected as Croatia’s entry for the 91st Academy Awards, The Eighth Commissioner portrays a quirky community in a beautifully photographed locale.

Basé sur un roman bien connu de Renato Baretić, The Eighth Commissioner suit Sinisa Mesjak, un politicien qui espère devenir vice-premier ministre et qui est envoyé sur une île retirée après s’être trouvé au centre d’un scandale de drogues et de prostitution. Mesjak se fait alors affecter comme commissaire de l’île de Trecic, dont la tâche principale consiste à établir un processus électoral – tâche que les sept commissaires précédents ne sont pas parvenus à mener à bien. En faisant la connaissance des habitants de l’île, grognons et excentriques, Mesjak apprend graduellement que l’île et ses habitants ont plus à offrir qu’il ne s’y attendait au départ. Choisi comme l’entrée de la Croatie pour les 91èmes Academy Awards, The Eighth Commissioner dresse le portrait d’une jolie communauté dans un emplacement photographié en beauté.
